One thousand characters to say it?

Gratitude, it is often said,
But to whom?
There is no doubt,
It gives joy, ceaselessly.

God? No word is emptier!
But this is real.
There is no doubt,
Yet, how to say it?

“The ever-burning fire
Kindling in measures,
Going out in measures.”

“Having no name,
It is the Originator of heaven and earth;
Having a name,
It is the Mother of all things.”

In religion and philosophy,
Since these words;
Heraclitus and Laozi,
We have come no closer.

“Life is a child at play
Moving pieces in a game.
Kingship belongs to the child.”

“They who are strong are content to be weak,
They are the paragon of humankind,
Virtue will never desert them,
They return to the state of a child.”

Like a ball caught in a torrent,
The child does not fight the current.
Going with what is,
Everything gets done, effortlessly.

How useless religion and philosophy,
Against this one reality,
This ever-flowing life:
That which is,
Wherever you are,
Right now,
Reading this.
